Tournament poker is structured much differently. For starters, the buy-in is set in advance. Instead of players showing up with as much money as they care to gamble, they show up with a set amount if they want to buy into the tournament. If the buy-in is $50, then each player needs to submit to the host exactly $50 if they want to play in the tournament. It’s not flexible, it’s the ticket amount for each player that wants in.
